My story

Two questions changed my life.
The first came from someone contacting me after many years away and asking if I’d been happy. I thought, ‘actually, not really.’ And that prompted me to ask myself the second question: picturing myself on my deathbed (sorry if that sounds morbid!), saying: ‘is that it?
I knew something wasn’t right so why didn’t I do something about it?’
As you can imagine, that is a thought you can’t unthink. Painful, yes. Scary, absolutely. But also vital. From that moment, everything changed. I realised that, though functional, my marriage had run its natural course: we were more like flatmates than life partners. Soon after, we negotiated an amicable divorce and are still friendly to this day. People said I was brave, but really it just seemed like an inevitability that I had to accept if I wanted to stay true to myself.
Then I realised that maybe the work I was doing had also run its natural course: it was no longer exciting me, I had lost my mojo there too. Sure, I could carry on as I was, but what once I found fulfilling now lacked a sense of purpose for me, prompting another life-changing question, this time from my oldest friend: ‘have you ever thought about coaching?’ It was truly a lightbulb moment!
Always interested in people and what makes them tick, I started reading up about coaching and researching different courses, because I wanted to ensure I was fully equipped to really help people and to make sure I received the best possible training and certification.
And it’s strange that my life changed because of some questions, when coaching itself is all about asking the right questions. Not giving advice. Not sharing one’s own opinions or experience. But listening, with empathy and curiosity, helping others find the solution that already exists within themselves.

The changes I describe above are seismic and most people are not looking for that degree of transformation, but that’s just what happened to me: new partner, new career, new home, whole new outlook. And how helpful would it have been to have had the guidance of a coach!
Bear in mind that no issue is too ‘small’ to bring to coaching: anything that is troubling or puzzling you is worth bringing – if it’s holding you back or standing in your way, then that’s good enough reason to want to tackle it head-on so that you can move past it and regain that zest for life, the mojo that lies within all of us.
Coaching is a collaborative process and it’s important that you feel comfortable with your chosen coach, so do take advantage of the opportunity to find out more on a free, no-commitment introductory call.
